Water Management for Conservation Specialists

Water Management for Conservation Specialists
was developed specifically for water agency staff, who offer landscape consultations as a service to their customers. Participants will learn the process required to perform a comprehensive water use evaluation and develop the skills necessary to educate their customers on efficient water use practices, as well as provide them with a variety of landscape water conservation strategies.

Irrigation System Retrofits – NEW

Participants will learn how to retrofit an existing irrigation system to improve its performance and efficiency. The workshop will include a discussion on pressure regulation, emission devices, drip conversion, environmental sensors, as well as smart controller conversion. Attendees will also be exposed to a variety of strategies for selling system retrofits to clients, as a means of expanding their services and adding value to their business.

Strategies for Efficient Irrigation Scheduling – NEW

Participants will learn the basic components of an irrigation schedule, scheduling concepts, controller programming and weather based scheduling methods.  Attendees will also be exposed to weather based scheduling technology and participate in hands on smart controller programming.

Low Volume Irrigation – Principles and Applications – NEW

Participants will learn the basic principles of low volume irrigation including; the components of a system, the design process, how to install a new system, or retrofit an existing one, and how to develop an irrigation schedule for low volume hydrozones.

Irrigation Design Principles

Participants will learn the basic principles involved in creating an efficient irrigation design. Discussion topics will includes, site analysis, system uniformity, hydrozones, sprinkler selection, sprinkler layout and basic hydraulic principles.

New and Emerging Technologies

Participants will learn about the many new water saving devices that can increase the efficiency of an irrigation system, including, sensor based controllers, rotary nozzles, low flow spray nozzles, pressure regulators, rain shut-off devices and low volume components.

Water Management Audits

Participants will learn the procedures for conducting a comprehensive water management evaluation. The discussion will include the process used to assess a sites plant material, cultural practices, irrigation system performance, and develop a summary report and water budget.

Water Conservations Strategies

Participants will learn the various strategies that can be employed to increase the efficiency of landscape water use.

Irrigation Efficiency

Participants will learn the many factors that influence the efficiency of an irrigation system, how to identify and solve irrigation design and maintenance problems that contribute to poor efficiency, and how to properly schedule irrigation to apply water efficiently.
