Pacific Water Management was contacted by California American Water, the water purveyor at The Meadows, and asked to guide an effort to reduce the amount of water applied to the 13.5 acre landscape. Working closely with the Landscape Committee and Landscape Contractor, Pacific Water Management develop an action plan that has resulted in a water savings of over 30%.
At this new residential development in Marina, Pacific Water Management was able to assist the development team comply with the water conservation requirement established by the Marina Coast Water District. Our report included an analysis and verification of the irrigation system components and installation, estimated water use calculations and a weather based irrigation schedule.
Through our comprehensive evaluation, Pacific Water Management was able to identify several factors that were affecting the performance of the multipurpose field irrigation system. In the summary report, Pacific Water Management clearly identified the problems and provided several strategies for improving the site water use efficiency and the appearance of the turf.
Pacific Water Management received accolades from the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District for developing a plan and guiding the process that resulted in St. Dunstan’s preschool achieving a water credit that allowed the school to obtain permit compliance. The project components included a re-designed water efficient landscape, and state of the art irrigation system with weather based control. In addition to the water credit, the site benefited from lower water costs, as well as the beautification of the school and church landscape.
In the spring of 2008 the City of Santa Cruz water conservation department contacted Pacific Water Management and asked us to conduct technical irrigation workshops for landscape professionals. Utilizing our experiences and educational materials developed by Bob Costa, Pacific Water Management developed a series of technical water management workshops, created specifically for the working landscape professional. The successes of the 2008 workshops lead to a similar request from the conservation staff in 2009.
